Hollow Block Molds: 6 Details to Confirm Before Ordering

A useful hollow block mold quotation starts with a clear block specification, not just a photograph or a request for the lowest price. Before comparing suppliers, make sure everyone is quoting the same finished block and a mold intended for the same machine.

Use the following six-point checklist to prepare your inquiry and record the details that need written confirmation.

1. Define the finished block dimensions

Provide the required length, width and height, with units clearly shown. Avoid relying only on descriptions such as “6-inch block” or “standard hollow block.” Instead, send a dimensioned drawing and identify the measurements you expect on the finished product.

Add photographs of the top, side and end faces. Where a measurement is uncertain, mark it as “to be confirmed” rather than asking the supplier to estimate it from a picture. Hendely’s manual hollow block machine page identifies block size, hole design and project conditions as information needed before choosing a configuration.

2. Confirm the hole layout, not only the outside size

Record the number, shape and position of the openings. Include the required outer wall thickness and the thickness of the internal walls separating the openings. Make sure the drawing shows which face is the top and how the block is intended to be used.

Ask for a drawing revision number and approve that same revision before manufacture. Hendely’s hollow block mold information includes hole shape, wall thickness and machine compatibility in the mold discussion.

3. Check compatibility with the actual machine

A block drawing describes the product you want; it does not, by itself, confirm that the mold will fit your equipment. For an existing machine, supply its manufacturer, model, identification plate and clear photographs of the mold area.

Ask the mold supplier to confirm the mounting arrangement, the mating pressing components, working clearances and the installation requirements. Do not assume that similar-looking machines use interchangeable molds. Where drawings are unavailable, request a measurement checklist before ordering; do not modify the machine simply to make an unverified mold fit.

4. Separate blocks per cycle from daily output

Ask how many blocks the proposed mold forms per cycle for your exact block drawing. Then ask what production time and operating conditions support any output estimate. Hendely lists the number of blocks per mold cycle among the details to discuss.

For comparison, the arithmetic is straightforward: theoretical hourly output equals blocks per cycle multiplied by 3,600, divided by cycle time in seconds. This is a calculation, not a guaranteed production figure. Request a separate estimate that states the shift length, staffing, material preparation, interruptions and handling arrangements assumed by the supplier.

5. Request an itemized quotation

Do not leave “one mold” undefined. Ask the supplier to identify the components included, any separately priced matching parts, packaging, delivery arrangements and installation assistance. Record the proposed mold material, wear-part arrangements and the terms for replacement parts.

For multiple block sizes, request a separate description and price for each approved drawing. Ask whether changing sizes requires only a mold change or additional components and adjustments. Keep these answers with the quotation so that your purchasing decision refers to a defined package.

6. Agree on sample review and acceptance

Before placing the order, ask how the agreed block geometry will be checked. Where a production trial is arranged, request a continuous operating video, identified sample blocks and measurements linked to the approved drawing. Agree in advance which checks are included and who records the results.

Treat photographs and videos as supporting records, not as a substitute for required product testing. State the test requirements for your project and agree who will perform them. Hendely’s product information says detailed specifications should be confirmed for the actual model and project; this guide does not promise a particular output, tolerance or mold service life.
