How to Approve a Hollow Block Mold Drawing Without Losing Track of Changes

A mold order can become confusing long before manufacturing begins. One person sends a block photograph, another revises the width, and a later message changes the opening layout. Without a single approved drawing, the buyer and supplier may believe they have agreed while referring to different products.

Keep the product drawing separate from the machine interface

The finished-block drawing describes the unit you want to make. The mold assembly and mounting drawings describe how tooling fits the machine. Ask the supplier to distinguish them rather than treating one sketch as approval of everything.

Have the appropriate technical people review interface dimensions, matching pressing components and clearances. A buyer’s signature on a block outline should not be taken as confirmation of an unreviewed mechanical interface. Record who is responsible for each approval.

Put an identity on every revision

Use a drawing number, revision letter or number, units and issue date. When a change is made, identify exactly what changed. “Use the new one” is not enough if several files are stored on different phones.

Keep superseded drawings for reference but label them clearly as not for manufacture. Send the replacement as a named file rather than only as a compressed image in a chat. Ask the supplier to confirm the revision used in the quotation and manufacturing instruction.

Close open questions before approval

Mark unresolved dimensions and notes as pending. Separate requests for information from approvals. When a supplier asks whether a wall thickness may change, answer that question explicitly; do not let a general “looks good” message approve every detail by accident.

Approval should refer to a defined document. For example, identify the drawing number and revision, the products covered and any remaining exceptions. Your organization’s engineering and purchasing procedures should determine who can approve dimensions and commercial consequences.

Link changes to price and timing

A geometry change can require the quotation or production plan to be reviewed. Ask for written confirmation of the effect before treating the revised drawing as the existing order. Do not assume a minor-looking change is free or can be made after manufacturing has started.

Keep one change log showing the request, the supplier’s response and the approved action. This is also useful when a replacement mold is ordered later: the final manufactured revision may differ from the drawing first attached to the inquiry.

Use a practical document register

Record Minimum identification
Finished block drawing Drawing number, revision and units
Machine interface Machine model and technical approval
Quotation Reference to the approved revision
Change request Requested change and written response
Sample review Sample ID and manufactured revision

Before releasing the order, ask a colleague to find the final drawing without reading the entire message history. If that is difficult, simplify the register. Clear document control is less glamorous than a machine video, but it helps both parties work from the same instructions.
